Mindful Movement and Yoga

What if calming your mind could begin by helping your body feel safe?

Sometimes, talking about what you’re experiencing is helpful. Other times, your body may need something different first, a chance to slow down, breathe, move, and feel a little more grounded.

Mindful Movement combines gentle yoga, mindfulness, breathing, and relaxation practices to help you connect with your body and support your emotional well-being.

You may find that when you’re stressed, anxious, overwhelmed, disconnected, or having a hard time focusing, simply trying to “think your way through it” doesn’t always work. Your body is part of the story, too.

Together, we can explore what helps you feel safer, steadier, stronger, and more at home in yourself. From there, you can begin to develop greater emotional awareness, confidence, self-compassion, and connection.

Mindful Movement isn’t about fitness.
You don’t need to be flexible, athletic, or experienced with yoga. You don’t need to know how to meditate or have any particular level of physical ability. There is no “right” way to move.

Instead, movement becomes a resource you can use to better understand and care for yourself.

Your therapy might include movement for much of a session, a few simple breathing or grounding practices, or a combination of movement and traditional talk therapy. We will work together to find what feels comfortable and useful for you.

You are always in control of how much—or how little—movement feels right for you.

Could Mindful Movement be a good fit for you?

You might benefit from this approach if you:

  • Feel anxious, depressed, stressed, or frequently overwhelmed
  • Have experienced trauma or have difficulty feeling safe or comfortable in your body
  • Struggle with focus, attention, or staying present
  • Have big emotions that can feel difficult to manage
  • Feel disconnected, shut down, restless, or “stuck”
  • Have difficulty slowing down or settling your body
  • Struggle with self-confidence or have a challenging relationship with your body
  • Want to better understand what your body is communicating to you
  • Want practical tools for feeling more grounded and present

Mindful Movement can also be incorporated into work with couples and families who want to strengthen connection, emotional awareness, communication, and healthy attachment.

What might you experience in our work together?

Through movement, mindfulness, and breathing, you can begin to discover what helps you feel more grounded and supported.

Together, we may work toward:

  • Feeling more regulated when emotions or stress become overwhelming

  • Developing a greater sense of safety and comfort in your body

  • Building confidence and a sense of strength

  • Recognizing and understanding your emotions without judgment

  • Practicing greater self-compassion

  • Improving focus and your ability to stay present

  • Learning ways to settle and reconnect when you feel overwhelmed or disconnected

  • Developing a more supportive relationship with your body

The goal isn’t to make your body do more or to change the way your body looks.

The goal is to help you become more connected to your body and discover what helps you feel grounded, capable, and well.

A trauma-informed approach

If you’ve experienced trauma, stress, or simply spent a long time feeling disconnected from your body, movement may feel vulnerable or unfamiliar. You won’t be pushed to move in ways that don’t feel comfortable or appropriate for you.

My approach is grounded in choice, curiosity, and respect for your individual experiences and needs.

In addition to being a Registered Yoga Teacher, Danelle has completed a 140-hour Yoga Psychology Professional Program, expanding her knowledge and skills in using yoga and mindful movement to support mental and emotional wellness.

This training is trauma-informed and brain-sensitive and complements Danelle’s therapeutic approach of incorporating movement and body-based practices as resources within your mental and emotional wellness plan.

Your body can become a resource—not something you have to fight or fix.

Mindful Movement can offer you another way to understand yourself and care for your nervous system.

Together, we can explore what helps you feel more grounded, connected, and at home in yourself and build practices you can carry with you beyond our sessions.

How Family Yoga Tools Can Increase the Harmony in your Home

Mindful Movement and Mental Health Part 2 – A Mind-Body-Brain Approach to Wellness

“As we begin to re-experience a visceral re-connection with the needs of our bodies, there is a brand-new capacity to warmly love the self.  We experience a new quality of authenticity in our caring, which redirects our attention to our health, our diets, our energy, our time management.  This enhanced care for the self-arises spontaneously...

Mindful Movement and Mental Health Part 1

Many people ask how and why do I incorporate mindful movement into my mental health practice and what is it?  Great questions!  To me mindful movement is a mixture of yoga, mindfulness meditations, breathing, and guided relaxation exercises.  I was first introduced to yoga in 2010 when I went to a Yoga Calm ® training...

“When I found Danelle, I was looking for someone who understood and appreciated this connection between our minds and bodies. And because the vulnerability was not something I was comfortable with, who would be open to using body movement to talk about deeper topics. We would talk first, then get into gentle movement, then when I was in a relaxed position, she would lead me through a mediation. I truly feel like I’m experiencing a deeper connection and a growing love for myself because I took this journey with my whole self.”
