Brainspotting

Have you ever understood something logically, but still felt like something inside you hadn’t let go?

Brainspotting offers another way to explore what may feel stuck or unresolved.  Brainspotting is a gentle, focused therapy approach developed by Dr. David Grand that offers another way to work with experiences that may be difficult to put into words.

Our brains and bodies can hold onto experiences in ways that aren’t always easy to explain. Brainspotting uses your field of vision and where you naturally look to help you notice and connect with what is happening inside. With gentle guidance, we make space for your mind and body to process.

We start by naming something activating or stressful from the present or past and rating its intensity. Then, we find a corresponding gaze spot or point with a pointer, something that feels either activating in the body or grounding as a place to rest your eyes.

From there, we practice focused mindfulness and allow whatever comes up to come up. You don’t have to know exactly what to say or have everything figured out before you begin. We’ll stay curious about what you notice and move at a pace that feels manageable and supportive for you.

Who might Brainspotting be a good fit for?

Brainspotting may be helpful if you’re experiencing:

  • Anxiety, stress, or feeling emotionally overwhelmed
  • The lingering effects of a difficult or distressing experience
  • Grief, loss, or a significant life transition
  • Feeling stuck in patterns you understand intellectually but have difficulty changing
  • Self-doubt, performance blocks, or feeling unable to move forward
  • Emotions or physical sensations that are difficult to explain
  • Something that feels unresolved even after talking about it
  • A desire to explore experiences in a way that goes beyond talking alone

You don’t need to know whether Brainspotting is the “right” approach before reaching out. We can explore together what you’re experiencing and whether this approach feels like a good fit for your needs.

I’m a Brainspotting Practitioner and continue to deepen my training and experience with this approach. My goal is to offer a supportive, curious space where you can slow down, listen to what your mind and body are communicating, and work with what feels ready to be explored.

Feeling Stuck? Brainspotting Might Help You Move Forward

I remember learning about Brainspotting decades ago and, honestly, was a bit turned off by the name, it seemed strange.  But after 20 years as a therapist, I’ve become more drawn to approaches that work below the surface of talk therapy to support real healing. Brainspotting also felt less formal than EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization...

And because the vulnerability was not something I was comfortable with, who would be open to using body movement to talk about deeper topics. We would talk first, then get into gentle movement, then when I was in a relaxed position, she would lead me through a mediation. I truly feel like I’m experiencing a deeper connection and a growing love for myself because I took this journey with my whole self.”
